Welcome to Sprinkled and Dunked



Welcome! I'm glad you're here.

For a while now I have been occasionally sharing my spiritual ramblings, thoughts, and other assorted random musings on social media.

But I wanted to have a place to gather them all. A place where anyone who might be interested in the latest strangeness floating around in my head could go. A place dedicated to sharing with others the glory of God and His great love for us.

Hopefully, this will be that place.

Some of what I share will be thoughts and ideas that I have already posted elsewhere, but that I think are worth repeating. And some will be new revelations that the Lord has shown me, either through my own quiet time and study or through the influence and impact of others in my life.

Feel free to poke around and make yourself comfortable. And especially feel free to let me know when you think I am off-base on any topic. I may not agree with you, but I am always willing to explore and discuss my own beliefs - I will never claim to be infallible (that is reserved for One who is greater than I am).

Oh, and why the name: Sprinkled and Dunked? It reflects my spiritual history.

I was born into a Catholic family and was baptized as an infant. I stayed in the Catholic faith throughout my teens and was eventually confirmed.

Since then I have wandered far, turning my back on God and the church and going my own way before the Lord graciously brought me into a proper relationship with Him.

At that time, I was baptized again, this time as an adult. The second baptism was at a Southern Baptist church and I was immersed (and almost dropped!) by the pastor.

So having been baptized twice, I tell people I am like a spiritual donut - I've been sprinkled and dunked!

Preach the gospel to yourself

I was listening to this song by Rend Collective recently, and the first verse really hit me. When I stand accused by my regrets And the devil roars his empty threats I will preach the gospel to myself That I am not a man condemned For Jesus Christ is my defense How often do we "preach the gospel to ourselves?" Not nearly enough, at least in my case. I am always looking for opportunities to preach the gospel to others, but not often do I simply sit and reflect on the truth of it in my own life. I know I am saved by Jesus' grace. That is not in question. It's just that sometimes, in the chaos that is life, when I feel defeated because I have failed again, it is easy to overlook. So I encourage you, when you're down, when you're tired, when you are defeated - preach the gospel to yourself! Remind yourself that "there is therefore now NO condemnation for those who are in Jesus!" The truth that saved you is no less true today, now that you have been saved

Gently and Lowly

  I finished reading "Gently and Lowly" by Dane Ortlund today. It was tough for me to read, and at times I almost put it down because I wasn't sure I agreed with the author. But I didn't put it down. And the more I read, the more I realized that the limiting factor in my understanding of the depth and richness of Jesus' love is my own small, human, mind. How can we truly understand the infinite? How can our minds make sense of words like "immeasurable" when we spend our lives measuring and quantifying? Jesus' love for His people knows no bounds. He holds nothing back. Even when we think we don't deserve it. Even when we forsake Him. Even when we rebel and wander away. He still loves us without limits.
